  ABOUT THE SPEAKER:

 Patricia Hunter, MSW, Washington State Long Term Care Ombuds Patricia Hunter has served as the State Long-Term Care Ombuds since August 2011, leading the work of staff and volunteer ombuds who investigate and help to resolve complaints filed by, or on behalf of, long-term care residents.  In this role, Patricia works with consumers, state agencies, providers, advocates and elected officials to improve the long-term care system. Prior to 2011, she developed and directed programs and policy for the Alzheimer’s Association Western and Central WA State Chapter. During her tenure there, she acted as a consultant in translational research lead by the University of Washington and worked on developing best practice in Alzheimer’s care, family caregiving, primary care, care planning and early stage programming for individuals living with dementia.  Patricia has spent her career working with others on the state and national levels improve policies and systems on important issues on aging and disability. Currently, Patricia serves on the Board of the National Association of State LTC Ombudsman Programs as their social media person.  Locally, she serves on the WA State Aging and Disability, Joint Legislative and Executive Committee on Aging and Disabilities, the Washingtonians for A Responsible Future, and the Washington Dementia Action Collaborative.  She holds a B.S. in Business from Central Washington State University and a Master’s in Social Work from University of Washington in Seattle.  She is a graduate of Leadership Tomorrow and United Way Project Lead.  Her interests include the arts, politics, travel, family and the sharing of great food and conversations.  She is also a “ZUMBA” exercise enthusiast.
