Please join us on Wednesday, November 17th as we host a virtual discussion on Careers in Finance and Interview Tips with guest panellists, Amit Sethi, CPA, CMA, Chief Compliance Officer, Value Partners Investments; Emily Burt, MBA, CFA, Executive Vice-President and Chair of the Board, Cardinal Capital Management, Inc.; Stuart Henrickson, MBA, CPA, CMA, CFA, Chief Financial Officer, Bold Commerce.

This discussion will be moderated by Harry Singh, a member of the Public Awareness Committee at CFA Society Winnipeg. 

From the discussion, you will learn more about the different career paths in Finance, how to overcome common challenges people face at the start of their career, and advice from potential employers on what they like to see in a candidate. You will also learn more about different areas of Finance such as Corporate Finance, Enterprise Risk Management, and Wealth Management.

Amit is a qualified CPA, CMA with more than 20 years of experience spread across compliance & risk oversight; investments & portfolio management; training & teaching; and business & product development. In his current profile at Value Partners Investments (VPI), Amit is responsible for overall compliance matters of the firm. Prior to joining VPI Amit worked in multiple compliance and investment management roles in Canada. Before migrating to Canada in 2010 Amit worked as a Regional Head for North India with UTI Mutual Fund and was responsible for managing the North Indian regional teams & promotion of investment products across Corporate Treasuries, High Net Worth Clients and Distributors.

 

Emily Burt, MBA, CFA
Executive Vice-President and Chair of the Board
Cardinal Capital Management, Inc.

Emily is the Executive Vice-President and Chair of the Board at Cardinal Capital Management, Inc., located in Winnipeg, Manitoba.  She leads the business development and operations teams at Cardinal. Emily works closely with the President on strategic planning and is a part of the Senior Management team. Working with institutional and private clients across Canada and the United States, she assists clients in building and managing investment portfolios that will meet their long-term goals and objectives. Prior to joining Cardinal, Emily gained a number of years of financial services experience at Assante Wealth Management and TD Waterhouse in Toronto. Emily has a Master of Business Administration degree from York University’s Schulich School of Business and holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation.  Emily currently serves as President of the board of directors of CFA Society Winnipeg and also sits on the Board of CFA Societies Canada.

 

Stuart Henrickson, MBA, CPA, CMA, CFA

Stuart Henrickson has spent over 30 years in corporate and investment banking in Canada, Europe and the Middle East working for such major institutions as Merrill Lynch and CIBC in Canada, and overseas as General Manager - Investment Banking with the National Bank of Abu Dhabi and CEO of Standard Bank MENA in Dubai. Upon returning to Winnipeg in 2010 he founded Red Leaf Capital Corp. to provide advisory services to growth focused companies in North America, Asia, and the Middle East. Further, Stuart has been Board Chair of North Forge Technology Exchange, an award-winning incubator, for the past 6 years and has served on many other non-profit and corporate Boards in Canada. In 2018 Stuart joined Bold Commerce, a top-10 tech growth company in Canada and led their Series A and Series B rounds, raising $57 million. Over his career, Stuart has led over $17 billion in capital raising transactions including IPOs, debt offerings, private placements, and structured products. Stuart has a B. Comm. (Hons.) degree from the University of Manitoba, an MBA in Finance from the University of Calgary, and has both the Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) and Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designations.
