Preventing Financial Scams

Virtual Coffee and Conversation

The Community Foundation of Western Nevada’s Preventing Financial Scams Initiative protects our community. We invite you to a virtual Coffee and Conversation on Preventing Financial Scams.

Scammers take advantage of uncertainty. COVID-19 brings an unprecedented amount of uncertainty that affects all of us. It is no surprise that scammers are exploiting the COVID-19 situation. The IRS, Federal Trade Commission, Nevada Attorney General, and others are constantly warning us of COVID-19 related scams. Some scammers are sending phishing emails asking for your bank account numbers to wire your economic impact payment. Other scammers claim that you can find out who in your neighborhood has COVID-19 by sharing your personal information. The prevalence of scams and financial abuse is overwhelming.

Learn about the latest scams targeting our community at our virtual Coffee and Conversation. The Community Foundation will share tips and resources on how you can protect yourself, your family and friends, and your neighbors. This virtual gathering will also feature presentations from two area experts: Rick Dutton from Nevada Consumer Affairs and Tim Johnston from the Better Business Bureau.

Following the presentations, there will be an opportunity for you to ask questions and share your story. Perhaps you spotted a red flag and stopped a scammer. Share your story to help others.

Despite the prevalence of scams, we know good things happen when our community comes together. We hope you will join us.

Thank you!
