2017 Luminaria - December 8 & 9

The Candle-lit Walk

Luminaria features a loop trail (.8 miles) through the Arboretum's wintery landscape lit by the light of over a 1000 candles.  While walking the trail you'll enjoy music from the Arboretum’s Carillon Bell Tower, see groves of trees strung with 1000's of twinkling lights and enjoy warming up with cups of Starbuck's coffee, Tree Top apple cider, hot chocolate, and/or tasty treats from the kitchens of Zirkle Fruit, while listening to live music performed by various local artists, fun children's crafts, and shopping in the Tree House Gift Shop.

Hundreds of families return year after year making the annual Luminaria walk a magical holiday tradition.  After 25 years, Luminaria continues to draw over a thousand visitors each night, and new features are added to keep it fresh and interesting.  Children and their parents can’t help but be enchanted by this special event. The trail is relatively flat and designed to be used without a flashlight.

Dress for the weather!

Park and Ride!  The drive into the Arboretum will be closed to all traffic starting at 5:30 PM.  Yakima Transit will be offering a FREE shuttle service from the well-lit and paved Kmart parking lot across the street from the Arboretum to the front doors of the Jewett Interpretive Center to start your walk.  Thanks to Yakima Transit, attendees will no longer have to deal with heavy traffic, scary dark parking lots, and/or getting stuck in the mud.  YAHOO!

Park and Walk Across!  All traffic will be directed to park in the Kmart parking lot across the street from the Arboretum.  You are welcome to park and walk across the street using the crosswalk at the intersection.

Handicap Access The drive into the Arboretum will be closed to all traffic starting at 5:30 PM.  Everyone will be directed to park in the Kmart parking lot across the street from the Arboretum unless you have an official handicap parking pass and/or a special permit obtained through the Arboretum before the start of the event.

If you need handicap access to the Jewett Interpretive Center you will need to drive into the Kmart parking lot to turn around and then use the signal lights to cross over into the Arboretum.  The turn lanes off of HWY 24 into the Arboretum will be blocked off.  You will need to show your pass/permit to the officer at the barricade for entry.

These awesome folks help us to light up the night!
