What We Do in the Santa Cruz:

The Santa Cruz River Initiative is focused on reconnecting communities with the river, retaining stretches with flowing water, and restoring watershed conditions. Our overall goal is to invest in water for the environment and communities along the Santa Cruz River.

What are the Santa Cruz River Research Days?

This FREE annual event is a venue for learning about research and conservation efforts that pertain to the natural and cultural resources along the Santa Cruz River. Our goals for this event are to trigger new research questions, promote networking, catalyze new collaborative projects and foster awareness of each other's research and conservation efforts.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS

Special Symposium - Agua Dulce Santa Cruz River Heritage Project

Field Trip to Paseo de las Iglesias River Park and Restoration Site

This year's special symposium will highlight the Agua Dulce Santa Cruz River Heritage Project, a concept proposed by Tucson Water that would restore flows to the downtown stretch of the Santa Cruz River. Learn more about this proposal, the history of this stretch of the river, and what such a project will have to consider to be completed.

Join us for a guided tour of Pima County's Paseo de las Iglesias River Park - an environmental restoration project completed along the Santa Cruz River between Ajo Way and Silverlake Road. This project had three overarching goals - reduce erosion potential, restore habitat, and provide recreational and cultural education opportunities.
