Celebrating the Long Road Home: 15 Years of Olmstead
Join the Atlanta Legal Aid Society and the Long Road Home committee at the Carter Center for the 15th Anniversary of the most important civil rights decision for people with disabilities in our country's history.
Special Lunch Program from 12:00-1:30
- Developing a Landmark Supreme Court Case: See never before seen film clips donated by Peter Grosz of Roustabout Media showing how the Olmstead case happened.
Afternoon Events Feature:
- Eve Hill, United States Justice Department, Civil Rights Division, who directs Olmstead enforcement for the United States, including a 2014 landmark settlement in Rhode Island.
- Commissioner Frank Berry, Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities, who is in charge of implementing the Georgia/Justice Department Olmstead Settlement.
- I am Olmstead stories: Stories from men and women who were confined in institutions and who have returned to the community due to Olmstead.
- Future of Olmstead Panel: A panel discussion about the future of Olmstead, including discussions of integration, housing, employment, and forensic hospitals.
Registration and self-advocate art exhibit begin at 11:00 AM.
