Black ski guy full tracks

- Monday, Jan. 28 Update -

We received about 6 inches of light fluffy snow last week that certainly helped the course situation greatly. Last night, our prayers were answered and we received another 5 inches of heavier snow with some quality moisture in it that is grooming up great! We expect warm temps the next two days that shouldn't hurt too much because of heavy cloud cover and little to no wind predicted. Snow is a possibility as well on Tuesday and Wednesday. After the short warm spell, it gets cold again on Tuesday night where everything should firm up great. When all's said and done, we're predicting a course that will be 97% very good, 2% good to fair, and 1% fair to poor. That 1% will be the handful of thin spots that should be avoidable. The skating deck should be primo and the classic tracks will be potentially shallower than normal, but we anticipate tracks all the way around the loop. We'll repost on Thursday morning with the final plan, but right now we're ON for a full race on the originally planned course. We look forward to seeing you Saturday....Ahhhoooooo!

Come 'ski with the pack' in the 2nd running of this XC ski marathon and new half marathon!  The 42K course will be a single loop that will incorporate, as it did last year, all of the best, and most challenging trails at Minocqua Winter Park.  The new 24K race will be much tamer and not include any of the 'black' trails that the 42K race incorporates. MWP logo

-The 42k race is a Birkie and Korte Freestyle and Classic Qualifier;                           Ski our race and, with some skill, endurance and luck, move up a few start waves in the Birkie!

-The race is a both a freestyle and classic race.  We will have tracks set throughout the race and a seperate classic skier start prior to the skate waves going off -

-There will be three or four 42K Classic skier waves and eight to ten 42K Freestyle waves.  The first four freestyle (first Classic) waves will be assigned based on last year's result or a predicted time based on a past performance.  The remaining waves will be self seeded.  Chip timing with a chip trigger at the start of the race allows us to do this -

- The race will start and finish right outside the heated Chalet building with ample parking close to the Chalet -

- The race will be timed with chip timing by the professionals at iTiming -

- Friday Evening (Feb. 1) Pasta Feed and packet pickup/registration -

- Awards ceremony at conclusion of race -

NEW (OR IMPROVED) FOR 2013 (based on your suggestions)

- New additional 24K distance race that will not include any 'black diamond' sections of trail -

- BETTER SWAG -Very cool race logoed nylon lined fleece blanket for the first 200 registrants -

- IMPROVED TRAILS - The bulldozer has been hard at work this off season and we fixed the couple of 'tight spots' that existed last year.  No, we did not eliminate all of the hills :) -

- Awards in 5 year age categories (for the 42k, there will be 10 yr. groups  for the 24k) -

- Wave starts based on performace or predicted performance to help with 'the flow' -

- Food will be available earlier on at the aid stations -
