George Suyama, FAIA  - Suyama Peterson Deguchi - Seattle
  
George loves to collect beautiful objects, from antiques and handcrafted artifacts to driftwood and rocks. His appreciation of craftsmanship, simplicity and nature informs all of his designs whether they are for private residences, art galleries or theatre renovations. “Our goal is to create an ambiance of place,” says George. In recognition of his design excellence and contributions to the profession, he received the AIA/Seattle Medal of Honor and is a member of the American Institute of Architects’ College of Fellows.


Allison WIlliams, FAIA - Vice President and Director of Design - AECOM

Based in San Francisco, Williams provides design leadership across more than 15 interdisciplinary offices, with architecture hubs in San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Orange, Calif., as well as Phoenix. With a career spanning more than 30 years, Williams has an extensive portfolio of work for corporate, real estate, cultural, education, government and civic clients.  A Loeb Fellow at Harvard Graduate School of Design, Allison earned her master of architecture and bachelor of arts in the practice of art degrees at the University of California, Berkeley, and was elevated to Fellow of the American Institute of Architects in 1997. She is a current member of the Harvard Graduate School of Design Visiting Committee for Harvard’s Board of Overseers, the Harvard Design Magazine Practitioners Advisory Board, and was recently elected to the Board of Directors for the San Francisco Planning and Urban Research Association. 


Ron Rochon, AIA - 
Managing Partner of the Miller Hull Partnership
Ron Rochon received a bachelor of arts in architecture degree, cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, in 1991, and a master of architecture degree in 1994, both from the Unviersity of Washington. He was presented the Alpha Rho Chi Medal at the UW in 1994 for his “demonstrated leadership, service, and the promise of professional merit.” He participated in the University of Washington Italian Studies Program in Rome in 1992. After completing his master’s degree, Rochon returned to Rome to be a graduate teaching assistant in 1994. 
After working for Cardwell/Thomas and Associates, architects in Seattle from 1994 to 2000, Rochon joined Miller Hull in 2000. He became principal in 2003 and partner in 2008. Ron has a strong passion for environmental sustainability, energy efficiency, and renewable energy technologies as well as projects that respond to the regional setting and climate. He has taken a leadership role in advancing the technical and project delivery capabilities of the firm, including the incorporation of software technologies such as Building Information Modeling, Navisworks, and Ecotect into Miller Hull’s design process. Currently, Ron is leading the ongoing effort to make Miller Hull a carbon-neutral business as a component of its compliance with the goals of the AIA 2030 commitment. Ron is a member of the Seattle Public Utilities Water Systems Advisory Committee, the University of Washington Professionals Advisory Council, the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education, and NAIOP.



Stephen Ayers, FAIA, LEED AP - Architect of the Capitol

On February 24, 2010, President Barack Obama nominated Mr. Ayers to serve as the 11th Architect of the Capitol. On May 12, 2010, the United States Senate, by unanimous consent, confirmed Mr. Ayers, and on May 13, 2010, the President officially appointed Mr. Ayers to a 10-year term as Architect of the Capitol. Mr. Ayers is responsible for the facilities maintenance and operation of the historic U.S. Capitol Building, the care and improvement of more than 553 acres of grounds and the operation and maintenance of 17.4 million square feet of buildings including: the House and Senate Congressional Office Buildings, the Capitol Visitor Center, the Library of Congress Buildings, the U.S. Supreme Court Building, the Thurgood Marshall Federal Judiciary Building and other facilities. He is responsible for the care of all works of art in the Capitol under the direction of the Joint Committee on the Library and is responsible for the maintenance and restoration of murals, outdoor sculpture and other architectural elements throughout the Capitol complex. He also serves as Acting Director of the U.S. Botanic Garden and the National Garden.

The Architect of the Capitol is a member of the Capitol Police Board and the Congressional Accessibility Services Board, as well as an ex officio member of the United States Capitol Preservation Commission. Additionally, the Architect of the Capitol is a member of the District of Columbia Zoning Commission, Advisory Council on Historic Preservation, National Capital Memorial Commission, Art Advisory Committee to the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority and the National Institute for Conservation of Cultural Property.
 
Under Mr. Ayers’ leadership, the AOC has, through a variety of initiatives, reduced carbon emissions, improved energy efficiency and implemented sustainable design practices throughout the Capitol complex. Mr. Ayers is also committed to supporting small businesses to help facilitate competition and support local communities, and has implemented several programs to actively award contracts to companies that reflect the diversity of our country. The Architect of the Capitol has approximately 2,300 employees and an annual budget of nearly $600 million.
