The “Drive for 35” EUI Performance:
Los Angeles Federal Courthouse

GSA’s award-winning Federal Courthouse in Los Angeles, CA by Clark Construction, Skidmore Owings & Merrill, and Syska Hennessy Group is a model of sustainability and energy water efficiency that has pushed the envelope for large Federal buildings in general, and courthouses specifically. This LEED Platinum building provides enhanced performance for its 26 courtrooms in 630,000 sf of occupied space.

This presentation will provide a guided tour through the aggressive energy performance goals and continuous baselining, describing the engineered architectural and engineering systems and solutions developed and implemented to achieve a EUI goal of 35. Further, we will illustrate the actual energy performance data and validation tracking provided over the first year of operation, resulting in an operational performance exceeding the aggressive goals set early for the project.

Presenter: Robert Bolin, PE, LEED Fellow, ASHRAE HBDP, Senior Principal, Syska Hennessy Group and National Director of High Performance Building Solutions

Rob is a Senior Principal with Syska Hennessy Group’s San Francisco Office and National Director of High Performance Building Solutions, with nearly 30 years of sustainable consulting engineering experience. His expertise in sustainable architecture and green buildings includes building designs for passive, low energy systems such as natural and mixed-mode ventilation, displacement ventilation, radiant heating and cooling, and building integrated renewable energy systems.
