On January 20, 2015 Robert J. Simandl, of the boutique HR Law Firm the Simandl Law Group, S.C., will discuss with the attendees the operational and legal obligations that must now be addressed by employers as a result of the recognition of same-sex marriage.  Bob will be addressing the following:

•  Updating Company policies, as well as health and welfare plans, so that the definition of spouse does not exclude legally-married same-sex spouses. 
•  Policy/procedure adjustments that need to be considered and implications for opposite sex marriages.
•  Domestic partner status and factors for consideration in policy application.
•  WFMLA leave and available leave to employees in a same-sex relationship:
     (1) unregistered domestic partners;
     (2) registered domestic partners; and
     (3) same-sex spouses.
•  Wisconsin income tax for health coverage benefits for same-sex spouses.
•  The inclusion of same-sex spouses in risk assessments and in determining a new premiums for health care costs.
