Rethinking Cultural Competency: Beyond Race

This workshop will include presentations promoting culturally competent practices with diverse populations.  MSW and human rights attorney, Adjoa Aiyetoro, will be the keynote speaker. The break out sessions will consist of the following topics: cultural competence, LGBT community, abuse and trauma, religion and spirituality, problematic sexual behavior, substance abuse, suicide among veterans, secondary trauma, and bibliotherapy. There will also be a forum held on “racial issues today” . This workshop will increase awareness of the importance of considering culture when working with diverse clients and will provide tools to assist clinicians in providing culturally competent services. 3 hours of ethics will be offered.

Provides six contact hours of continuing education.
