A Word From Our Co-Chairs

Who are we? We are the proud parents of four children. One of our children, Nathaniel, is affected by autism and has attended Avondale House for several years. We were first welcomed into the Avondale House family when Nathaniel began as a student in the day school program. Now, at 21 years old, Nathaniel participates in the adult day program.

We are honored to serve as co-chairs of Avondale House’s annual Challenging Autism Luncheon, titled, “This Is Us,” taking place on April 9 at the Junior League of Houston. We’ll be sharing some perspectives of families loving and supporting children with autism. As with all children sometimes it’s smiles and small miracles, but often raising a child with disabilities isn’t. Avondale House joins families during the great times and the hard times.

A unique facility in Houston, Avondale House offers developmental and educational opportunities for individuals with significant challenges due to autism. Children from twenty school districts receive services that exceed the capacity of many school systems. Avondale House also serves adults through day habilitation and residential services in a safe, nurturing environment with community engagement.

We hope you’ll join us as we share the extraordinary stories of families whose lives have been changed by Avondale House. Some families have peace of mind knowing their child is and will be cared for in one of our group homes. Other families are finally able to go out to eat together because their school class practiced restaurant behavior during community outings. Another family might tell you that their adult child now has a sense of purpose because of the meaningful activities they engage in at the adult day program.
