Join us for the next Community Book Club!

NLI is pleased to invite you to read and discuss the next book with us. Book #4 is The Color of Mind: Why the Origins of the Achievement Gap Matter for Justice by Derrick Darby and John L. Rury.  Dozens of community members have contributed to ongoing dialogue on social justice in previous groups. Now, you can join in for our Book #4 discussions beginning Tuesday December 8th. Guests will participate in weekly conversations led by NLI facilitator GiGi Elder. We anticipate these discussions will run from December 8th - January 19th, with a 2-week break over the holidays. Participants should be ready to discuss the Introduction and Chapter One at the first session.

American students vary in educational achievement, but white students in general typically have better test scores and grades than black students. Why is this the case, and what can school leaders do about it? In The Color of Mind, Derrick Darby and John L. Rury answer these pressing questions and show that we cannot make further progress in closing the achievement gap until we understand its racist origins.
