As the United States engages in its “pivot” to Asia and the Pacific and with a looming debt crisis in Europe possibly undermining Asia’s growth, the 2012 Asian Development Outlook analyses the challenges faced by Asia as economic inequality widens despite the region’s vast economic gains.

Will Asia's growth contribute to stabilizing the world economy? Can policymakers take sufficient measures to address economic disparities in a region home to two-thirds of the world's poor, where some 1.8 billion people still live on less than $2 a day? What are the immediate economic prospects for developing Asia and what risks lie ahead?  To what extent will the sovereign debt crisis in Europe undermine Asian growth?  What are the consequences for Asia if inequality is allowed to widen further?

We invite you to join the Asian Development Bank, The Center for a New American Security and the Asia Society for this timely discussion on what lies ahead for Asia and the Pacific and how the economic success of the region addresses national security concerns of the United States.

About the 2012 Asian Development Outlook

Asian Development Outlook 2012 includes analysis of 45 economies, including People’s Republic of China and India. The ADO also examines the medium-term prospects for developing Asia, by country and by subregion:  East Asia, Southeast Asia, South Asia, Central Asia, and the Pacific.

About the Asian Development Bank

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) is dedicated to reducing poverty in the Asia and Pacific region through inclusive and environmentally sustainable growth. About the Asia Society

Asia Society is the leading educational organization dedicated to promoting mutual understanding and strengthening
partnerships among peoples, leaders and institutions of Asia and the United States in a global context. The Asia Society has recently transformed its presence in Washington, as part of its global effort to assist policy-makers in their efforts to build cooperation among Asian nations.  The Society’s Washington Office is now focusing more sharply on increasing American engagement across Asia; advocating for a U.S. Asia policy that relies on cooperation through diplomacy, trade and development; and enhancing policy-makers’ awareness of the political, economic and social trends shaping the Asia-Pacific.
