Join Chantal Normand of Thrive Facilitation and Marten Sims of the Vancouver Design Nerds for a one day fast (and slow), fun and dynamic workshop for leaders working with complex issues. We will lead you through an introduction to Theory U, an innovative framework and method employed by social impact and innovation labs for leading profound change.

Through creative processes, interactive exercises, deep reflection and rapid prototyping we will introduce you to an enriching process that brings awareness, attention and consciousness to the system that your community, organization or neighbourhood operates from.

We will focus on two broad, but real-world issues during the workshop: engagement and happiness.

Learning Outcomes:
Learn how to use this process with your team, neighbourhood, community organization
Discover fun and generative experiential learning techniques
Experience a design (reflexive) + thinking (reflective) approach to solving complex issues
To be introduced to Otto’s Sharmer Theory U process

Who is it for? This workshop is for anyone who is faced with complex problems and is looking for a method and practice that is solutions-centric: directors of non profits, corporate social responsibility directors, municipal social planners, city staff persons, social entrepreneurs, social change makers, designers, musicians, artists, activists and lovers of the fragile blue dot we’re flying around on.

Why should you attend? Finance. Food. Fuel. Water shortage. Resource scarcity. Climate chaos. Mass poverty. Mass migration. Fundamentalism. Terrorism. Financial oligarchies. We have entered an Age of Disruption. Yet the possibility of profound personal, societal, and global renewal has never been more real. Now is our time.

“Our moment of disruption deals with death and rebirth. What’s dying is an old civilisation and a mindset of maximum “me”—maxi- mum material consumption, bigger is better, and special-interest- group-driven decision-making that has led us into a state of organized irresponsibility, collectively creating results that nobody wants.” – Otto Sharmer

Because of the urgency of today’s challenges, we need a way to create a better future!
