Learn how to craft and structure stories in some of the most popular fiction genres: sci-fi, fantasy and horror. In this two-session workshop, you’ll have the opportunity to learn and practice craft, POV, characterization, setting, and dialogue for the short story form. For aspiring novelists, short stories give you a place to practice new techniques, experiment with voice, and learn to develop strong scenes. Placing your stories gives you both publishing credits and the chance to earn some money.
Join author and editors Belea T. Keeney and Alice Osborn who will give you specific tips on developing, writing, and eventually selling your work. Both authors have written and edited short stories for a variety of publishers and genres. This class is best-suited for writers who have previous writing experience and/or are avid readers of genre fiction who are interested in writing their own story.
Required reading: All students are required to read Salem’s Lot by Stephen King by the second class for class discussion.
