Implementing Otoacoustic Emissions (OAE) Hearing Screening and Follow-up: Self-Guided Learning Curriculum Webinar

Presented by staff from the Early Childhood Hearing Outreach
(ECHO) Initiative, Utah State University

Tuesday, July 17, 2018
2:00 p.m. EDT

This webinar will assist Early Head Start and Head Start (EHS/HS) staff to engage in a self-guided learning process designed to prepare individuals to provide quality OAE hearing screening to young children. The ECHO Initiative periodically offers a four-part web class addressing this learning need. As a more flexible alternative, the ECHO Initiative also offers a self-guided learning curriculum that program staff can access as needed.

This webinar will help participants get started in the practical, hands-on, self-guided learning process.  The curriculum is divided into four online learning sessions and the content includes information and exercises for:

  • Planning and implementing an OAE hearing screening program
  • Explaining how OAE screening works
  • Conducting OAE screenings on young children
  • Engaging in appropriate follow-up steps when a child does not pass the screening
  • Tracking children through the screening and follow-up protocol
  • Accessing additional tools and resources that support quality improvement

Target Audience

This practical, skill-development curriculum is designed for individuals working in programs that are committed to providing OAE hearing screening to the young children they serve. Programs are encouraged to have more than one staff member complete either the self-guided learning process or a live web-class to maximize practice and retention of material.

How to Participate

There is no cost for the webinar or to access the self-guided learning curriculum, but participants will need to have functional OAE screening equipment and be able to practice screening young children during the learning process.
