This workshop is designed for NVivo users who would like to incorporate demographic data about their cases into their NVivo project files using node classifications. Node classifications allow you to “classify” any node as a particular kind of “case” (for example: a person, an organization) that has a set of attributes (for example, a PERSON might have an age, level of education, gender, etc.). (See this page in the Nvivo help file, “Why classify nodes?”)
Using node classifications is most useful to NVivo users who have a moderate number of cases (no strict rule, maybe more than 10) and who are interested in looking at their data as it differs across these attributes (for example, what kinds of different emotions do different age groups express about the natural environment?). This kind of analysis requires data to be not only classified, but also coded.
This workshop is targeted to NVivo users who want to use classification data in their project, but don’t yet know how. I’ll explain how classification data is linked to the other parts of your project and teach you how to import a classification sheet, link your classification data to your case nodes, and use classification data to run queries or make comparisons.
