Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) through a Community Lens

Description: Workshop addresses intimate partner violence (IPV), which includes approaches & responses to historical trauma, as it relates to African Americans, Hispanic/Latinos, and LGBTQA communities.  It is designed to bridge the gap in cultural disparities to educate those who will treat IPV victims in these communities. 

About the presenter: Erika Gilchrist is an Award-Winning Speaker and author specializing in women’s issues and IPV (Intimate Partner Violence). Assaulted as a little girl, sleeping in a van with her ex-husband, and living in a women’s shelter, Ms. Gilchrist has earn the title of “The Unstoppable Woman.” She is regarded as one of the most energizing, engaging, and captivating speakers in the industry. As a published author of 8 books, as well as her latest release: If You Leave, I Will Kill You – Getting Off the Beaten Path of Domestic Violence, she gives a powerful voice to those who struggle to be heard. She’s been featured as one of the “15 Most Powerful Women on the South Side of Chicago,” CLTV, and Rolling Out Magazine.

Cost: This is a FREE workshop.

Continuing Education Units have been applied to the Illinois Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Professional Certification Association (IAODAPCA).

Meals: Continental breakfast will be provided.  Lunch is on your own - view meal offerings at training location. 

Parking: Halsted Street Parking Structure – there are two visitor entrances located on Taylor St. (760 W. Taylor St.) or Halsted St. (801 S. Halsted St.). Daily parking fee ranges $11 – $15.  We will not validate parking.
