 Chicks in Horticulture Brunch

with Angela Treadwell-Palmer

(a.k.a Plantweenie), Founder and Co-Owner of Plants Nouveau

Each March, LINLA recognizes the contribution of women to the horticulture industry at the annual Chicks in Horticulture Brunch. Chicks (and roosters!) from all aspects of horticulture gather to hear a well-known female horticulturalist speak to the power of women in the green industry.

Join us as Angela enlightens and entertains us as she shares how new plants come to market and how we can be "awesome" and stand out in a crowd.

Her career has spanned almost every aspect of gardening, garden design and teaching folks how to garden with plants – especially natives. She is the founder and now team partner in Plants Nouveau, LLC, a new plant introduction company based in Alabama and Massachusetts. Traveling around the World searching for new plants to introduce, she has always had a passion for new plants and selecting the best new plants is what she does best.

Plants Nouveau is known for its wild and colorful marketing.  Wild and colorful for sure, yet very thoughtful and jam-packed with information to help growers and consumers succeed with our new plants.

Before embarking on her own, Angela managed the staff and development of ˝ of the collections at the U.S. National Arboretum in Washington, DC, as well as their Elite Plant Introduction Program. She was a perennial buyer/grower for one of the largest retail garden centers on the East Coast, Homestead Gardens/Growers, in Davidsonville, MD. As well as three years managing the Plant Introduction Program for Chicagoland Grows®, Inc. This was the plant introduction program of the Chicago Botanic Garden and the Morton Arboretum.

Angela served an even longer term as the Director of New Products for one of the largest wholesale nurseries on the East Coast, The Conard-Pyle Co, where she learned from the best.

Plants Nouveau allows her to take everything she has learned (the good, the bad, and the ugly) and apply it to introduce plants the way she thinks they should be introduced.
