Controlling LEDs to Meet Customer Expectations
AIA Program # CLED13 (1.0 LU/HSW)

Through examination of the LED industry, the participant will be able to describe the features and benefits of LEDs as a general illumination light source, and the applications where LEDs excel to ensure operational safety and occupant productivity.

Studying the components of an LED system will enable the participant to explain an LED luminaire and each component involved to ensure effective and safe operation.

By examining existing control types and standards, the participant will be able to identify the differences between power line, 3 wire and low voltage control.

Analysis of LED drivers will enable the participant to identify the differences between constant current and constant voltage drivers and which applications require which type of driver to ensure safe operation and expected performance.

2:00 - 3:00 pm LANGAN:
3D Laser Scanning:
Capturing the
Whole Picture
AIA Program # 3D Laser Scan (1 CEU/HSW)

This session will provide the attendees with basic information on High Definition 3D Laser Scanning and its use to capture data to create Information Models of existing conditions. Presented by Professional Land Surveyor the presentation is centered on real life projects and will include successes and lessons learned. As with many design challenges, the need for accurate and precise existing conditions data is critical to the outcome of a project’s design. This need is greatly magnified with building reuse and interior construction projects. BIM is an obvious solution, however the creation of an accurate existing conditions model is challenging. 3D Laser Scanning is the perfect solution. Our experience shows “survey grade data” is critical to the Design Build process. Who better than licensed surveyors could understand the accuracy requirements and adjustments in scanning control needed to produce accurate existing conditions base mapping?

3:00 - 3:20 pm    Snack Break

3:20 - 4:20 pm ARC Document Solutions:

Participants will gain an understanding of:
• The differences between managed and un-managed print networks
• Why managing a print network is important to a design firm
• How cost, efficiency and sustainable business practices improve by employing managed print services (MPS)
• The components of a comprehensive MPS program
• The basics of evaluating MPS programs and suppliers

• Define and understand the basics definitions and types of  green walls
• Understand the collective benefits of green roof wall systems, and how they can relate to the “triple bottom line” of a construction project, including the LEED certification process.
• Learn about the design considerations and process for green wall projects
• Learn the importance of maintenance of green walls
