What:  Risk Management at Starbucks; Caution:  The Contents in this Presentation May Be Hot

Summary:  Starbucks is one of the most well-known Washington companies. This presentation will explain how Starbucks, like other large companies, utilizes a variety of risk management and risk transference techniques including placement with commercial insurance companies, self-insurance, and the use of captives to address general liability and first party property insurance risks. We will also address claims handling and the use of third-party administrators.

Speaker: Steve Legg – Director of Risk Management, Starbucks Coffee Co.

Steve has been with Starbucks since 1997, serving as director, risk management since 2006. Steve’s responsibilities include global property and casualty insurance, claims management, risk financing activities and management of the risk team within Starbucks treasury & risk management department. Steve served on the Board of the Washington State Risk and Insurance Management Society (RIMS) chapter for seven years, serving as President in 2005-2006. He has a degree in Political Economy from the University of California at Berkeley. Steve has earned his Chartered Property & Casualty Underwriters (CPCU) Designation and the Associate in Risk Management (ARM) Designation. Steve lives in Kirkland with his wife Carla and their 9-year-old twins
