The Austerlitz Historical Society invites you to participate in our final Open Hearth Workshop of the year!
Learn about the skills needed to build hearth and oven fires; maintain temperatures; choose and position hearth "furniture," work with and care for period cookware and utensils; prepare meals using historically correct ingredients; and, explore a variety of cooking methods.
Each class will culminate at table, where the day’s meal will be shared and enjoyed by all.
Prepare, cook and enjoy a full meal using the cooking and baking techniques of the 1830's-40's in our Old Kitchen. Taught by hearth cooking and food expert, Lavada Nahon.

All workshops feature "seasonally appropriate" fare and provide an opportunity to learn hearth and oven skills, while exploring the history of the foods being prepared. The workshops conclude with a hearth-to-table dinner in the style of the 1830's-40's.
