Session 1:  ”Cutting Edge:  Masonry Codes and Standards”            Sam Rubenzer, FORSE Consulting.  Project consultant with International Masonry Institute (IMI)

This seminar will describe the development process of the TMS 402 Building Code Requirements & TMS 602 Specification for Masonry Structures.  Attendees will understand the relationship between the IBC and the TMS 402/602 code and will review select changes incorporated into the 2011, 2013, and 2016 TMS 402/602 code.  Discussion will include the likely impact from these code changes to masonry design and construction.  Attendees will learn to identify how to implement the new provisions to produce cutting edge masonry design.

Session 2:   ”Total Precast Building Systems”                                                Tom Holmes, Executive Director Mid-Atlantic Precast Association (MAPA)

Participants will explore precast concrete building design solutions. They will learn what precast, prestressed concrete structural products are, how they are manufactured, and quality assurance procedures. Explore examples of structural precast concrete integrated solutions for a wide variety of markets and realize the full potential of loadbearing architectural precast units. The session will end with an overview of industry support available to the design community, including published and electronic media.

Session 3:  ”Selecting and Designing Post-Installed Anchors for the Proper Base Material”                                                                                          Justin Streim, P.E., Simpson Strong-Tie, Inc., ICI Field Engineer

Base material properties and building code requirements for anchoring to them present a unique challenge for structural engineers. The introduction of strength design and the constant changes to concrete anchor testing requirements facilitate the evolution of post-installed concrete anchors, where traditional post-installed anchors are permitted for use in concrete masonry. Anchoring to structural steel also presents its challenges. This presentation explains how concrete, masonry, and steel base materials affect post-installed anchorage design and selection. Attendees will receive an overview of the types of anchors which are suitable for each base material in addition to how and why post-installed anchors were developed for each base material. Finally, this presentation will provide a glimpse of possible code development in other countries and how they may affect the future of local codes.

Session 4:  ”Joist Design from the Supplier Perspective”                   Keith Juedemann, Canam-Buildings, Regional Sales Manager

Engineers request information from the joist supplier on a daily basis.  Learn what are the most commonly discussed design and construction topics.  Hear the joist supplier engineer's answers to these questions and learn their perspective on information that the Engineer of Record’s design drawings should be including.
