Session 1: ”Wind Design Considerations for Joists and Joist Girders”
presented by: Timothy J. Holtermann, P.E., S.E., Corporate Engineering Manager for Canam Steel Corporation
This seminar will provide a comprehensive review of wind forces on steel joist and Joist Girder roof systems, including wind load determination, wind load combinations, and wind load application. Specification, analysis, and design to resist uplift loads will be a primary focus, but also load paths and connections for wind moment frames, collectors, and braces.
Learning objectives include:
Session 2: ”Building Masonry Walls with Material Quality Control”
presented by: Jim Patchus. SPEC MIX, Regional Sales Manager – Masonry
Designed to assist the participant in gaining knowledge on the future of masonry mortar, this interactive seminar has attendees participating in hands-on demonstrations illustrating the quality of factory produced mortar compared to the inconsistencies associated with site mixed mortar. Participants also will discover the requirements necessary to achieve consistent colored mortar every time. Now specifiers can be assured that the products they specify are manufactured to exceed all applicable ASTM standards.
Learning objectives include:
Session 3: ”AISI Cold-Formed Steel Design Standards and other Resources”
presented by: Jay Larson, P.E., F. ASCE, Managing Director, Construction Technical, American Iron and Steel Institute.
The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) has as its mission in standards development to improve the performance of cold-formed steel in structures through the development and use of improved analysis methods and design specifications. This presentation will provide an overview of the AISI standards that are referenced in the 2015 International Building Code (IBC), highlight the changes made in the AISI standards that are referenced in the 2018 IBC, and discuss design resources that are available to help users of these standards.
Session 4: ”Self-consolidating Concrete”
presented by: Marc Boudreau, Sika Corporation, National Technical Representative.
The use Self-Consolidating Concrete (SCC) continues to grow and the applications are almost endless. Learn from Sika’s problem solver/troubleshooter for the entire country as he answers questions on the following topics:
