WRS Kick Off: In Person China Camp Museum Tour

Join the Women of Rodef Sholom in kicking off the year with an in person tour of the China Camp Museum led by Friends of China Camp Executive Director and fellow Rodef congregant Martin Lowenstein, followed by a crafts activity and socializing.

A Chinese shrimp-fishing village thrived on the China Camp site in the 1800's. Nearly 500 people, originally from Canton, China, lived in the village. In its heyday, there were three general stores, a marine supply store, and a barber.

Fishermen by trade in their native country, they gravitated to the work they knew best. Over 90% of the shrimp they netted were dried and shipped to China or Chinese communities throughout the US. The museum of China Camp Village helps tell the story of these hardy shrimp fisherman and is a fascinating glimpse into their immigration experience. Watch this short 2 minute video to learn more.

There is plenty of parking available in the lower gravel parking lot by the pier. Please note that there is a $5 parking fee. We will meet in front of  the China Camp Cafe at 9:30am.

The Women of Rodef Sholom will provide bagels and cream cheese and fruit to enjoy during our Tikkun Olam activity following the tour but please plan to bring your own drinks of choice.
