Red-bellied Cooter Conservation

Brian Bastarache, Bristol County Agricultural HS

Please join HPWA and the Wildlands Trust on Saturday, March 16, at 2 PM for a presentation about the history and methods associated with head-starting endangered Northern Red-bellied Cooter. These turtles today live in just one county in Massachusetts (Plymouth). Held at the Wildlands Trust Conservation Barn, this will be a family friendly presentation by Brian Bastarache and his students at the Bristol County Agricultural High School. They are part of the School's Natural Resources Management program. The students raise endangered hatchling turtles from September until May then release them into the wild with a much better chance for survival. This restoration program is a partnership with Mass. Wildlife.
Bring your children or grandchildren to learn about these unique Plymouth turtles and the efforts being made to increase their population. The program is free and open to the public, but we ask that you register for limited seating by clicking the button below and letting us know how many will be in your group.
