2016 WPMA Annual Scientific & Membership Meeting

Please join us at this once-a-year meeting, featuring these two new kick-off events:

  • Golf Outing: Join your colleagues and friends for 18-holes at the Wild Rock Golf Club at the Wilderness. This course is rated 4.7 out of 5 by Golf Advisor and is home to one of the few quarry courses in the United States. The WPMA is happy to offer members significantly reduced rates of $25. Fee includes green fees, GPS cart and more. Non-members are welcome to join the outing for $75. Tee times every 10 minutes beginning at 12:30 p.m. Limited to the first 20 golfers.
  • 1st Annual Resident Poster Competition and Reception: The WPMA is hosting its first annual poster competition and we need YOU to help us choose the winners! Participating residents will provide brief presentations on their cases. Attendees will then be provided evaluation sheets to judge the posters. Your votes determine the winners. Participation is good for 1 CME.  A hosted reception will be held outside of the lecture hall. Presentations are tentatively set to begin at 6:30 p.m. Join us to help support the next generation!

  • "Reducing Risks, Improving Compliance, and Enhancing Patient- Physician Rapport". (60 minutes) – This interactive program will do more than help healthcare providers reduce the medico- legal risks of practicing medicine.  Practicing these techniques will enhance the physician-patient relationship in order to positively effectuate patient compliance and clinical outcomes.
  • "Using Microeconomic Principles to Manage Your Medical Practice". (60 minutes) – This presentation is designed to refresh and familiarize physicians with the important microeconomics principles that go into successfully running a medical practice.

  • Equinus Management for Improved Orthotic Outcomes – This lecture examines the definition of equinus, the frequency of equinus, pathological conditions associated with equinus, the biomechanics of the medial arch, the biomechanics of equinus, the effects of static stretching on the muscle-tendon unit, how long Achilles tendon stretching should be done daily, the effect of stretching on ankle joint range of motion, the importance of subtalar position during stretching, the methods of stretching the Achilles tendon, unilateral vs. bilateral stretching, relationship between orthotic correction and equinus deformation, the role of shoe drop in equinus management. Estimated time 45 minutes.
  • Please Stop Cutting the Plantar Fascia - This lecture examines the anatomy of the plantar fascia, the biomechanics of the plantar fascia, the results of lengthening the plantar fascia, the role of the Gastrocsoleal complex in plantar fasciitis, and the alternative surgical approach to plantar fascia releases. Estimated time 45 minutes.
  • Surgical Treatment of Equinus Deformity – Examines the different options of surgical treatment of equinus deformity with a literature review and recommendation of preferred choice. Estimated time 30 minutes. 
  • The Death of the Austin Bunionectomy -  This lecture describes the pathogenesis of hallux abucto valgus, examines the biomechanics of the 1st ray, examines principles of deformity correction, reviews the literature for the Austin bunionectomy including recurrence rates, discusses the 1st MCJ arthrodesis as the most logical long-term treatment. Estimated time 45 minutes.
