The Building Automation System's Critical Role Within LEED

How does a Building Automation System supports or contributes to LEED points? To determine how designing and specifying a building automation system will contribute to LEED Certification points, it is crucial to understand: how points are generated under the basic categories of LEED for New Construction and Existing Buildings; the technical capabilities and primary goals of utilizing a B.A.S.; and how these are integrated in the building design and specification.  This seminar will explore these avenues, and help you determine where a building automation system contributes, or in some ways, doesn’t contribute to LEED Certification.

John Glaeser, LEED AP
Business Development Manager, Siemens Building Technologies

Mr. Glaeser grew up working with HVAC and plumbing systems as a trade apprentice.  After receiving his B.S. from the University of Detroit Mercy in Information Systems, he began his career in the field of automation as an Instrumentation & Controls Technician for a Fortune 500 natural gas and electric provider.  In this role, he was responsible for the installation, startup, trouble-shooting and commissioning of industrial and process automation systems, as well as facility automation and life safety systems.  He then moved into a role with an MEP consulting firm where he designed and commissioned building automation systems on large healthcare, higher education, commercial and mission critical construction projects.   After several years in a consulting role, and realizing his enthusiasm for the more hands-on aspect of commissioning, he moved into the role of Director of Commissioning with an Engineering News Record top 200 consulting firm.  In his current role, Mr. Glaeser serves as a building management system consultant and works with consulting and specifying engineers to enhance their knowledge and achieve better project outcomes.  He is a LEED Accredited Professional and an ASHRAE Commissioning Process Management Professional.

Hydronic Loops: Why performance does not always match design

Energy and performance models make a few faulty assumptions about hydronic performance.  By understanding these assumption, we can have a better view of actual performance.  This presentation will examine the performance impact of improper valve sizing, unstable system pressures and balancing device selection.  It also examines the physical effects of static balancing (valve authority) and coil degradation.

David Kandel
Regional Application Consultant, Belimo

David Kandel currently works for Belimo as an Application Consultant.  After graduating from the University of Rochester (NY) with BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering, David spent the early part of his career designing control valves for Belimo, including their first generation pressure independent valve.  Today, David spends the bulk of his time supporting consulting and facilities engineers and teaching about products and applications in the area of hydronics. David lives in Castle Rock, CO.

MONEY SAVING TIP - BUY THE SEASON PASS!

Who isn't trying to save a buck these days? But, act quickly to reap the full benefits!

Are you always forgetting to make your meeting reservation?
Do you hate standing in long check-in lines?
Are you planning on attending at least 7 meetings this year?
Make this year THE YEAR that you make your life simpler with an Orange Empire Season Pass!

Your Board of Governors has once again authorized the offering of a Season Pass to our meetings for 2014-2015. There is only one catch. To maximize the savings, the pass must be purchased no later than October 21st (no credit for September). You can even do it online!

The price is still only $260.00! This includes all 6 of our regular meetings at the Holiday Inn ($35-$40 each)

...AND the December Tri-Chapter Meeting

...AND our joint Chapter Meeting with San Diego in March

...AND the Installation Dinner in May

The cost of the latter three events is always higher than our regular meetings. That's all 8 meetings included with one season pass!

To get a Season Pass, simply indicate your intentions with your advanced reservations online or at check-in for the October 28th meeting while bringing your $260.00. One check...done... paid up for the ENTIRE YEAR!

Assuming you plan to attend the remaining eight meetings, the Season Pass cost averages to just over $32 per meeting!

Thereafter, just sign up using the pay 'at the door' option and let Erica Kerr know that you've arrived the night of the meeting.

But wait! There's more! If you have an aversion to long term commitments, your pass is even transferable to a friend or colleague for an evening that you miss!

Beyond supporting your Chapter, convenience alone should tempt you to consider a season pass. So, why not take the step now to eliminate one uncertainty from your life... Buying a Season Pass locks in a genuine bargain!
