a 2015 Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education- sponsored

FREE Summer Institute

for ADVANCED OCCUPATIONAL THERAPISTS AND PHYSICAL THERAPISTS with experience implementing change through collaborative and contextual services in Massachusetts Public Schools.

This institute is designed for school occupational therapists (OTs) and physical therapists (PTs) who are knowledgeable about using law and policy to guide their practice within the public school setting and have prior experience implementing collaborative and contextual services within their districts. This institute targets therapists who desire support in advancing effective practices and exploring expanded roles. There will be a focus on implementing change toward best practices based upon current evidence utilizing strategic planning, collaborative approaches, and the use of data as an empowerment tool. There will be opportunities to develop communities of practice as a venue for ongoing support.

  • Assess and learn methods for modifying practice to align with best practices consistent with legislation, policy, and educational initiatives
  • Explore and engage in expanding roles
  • Learn and implement strategies to effect change within your school or district

 …and much more in this unique summer institute funded by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

Institute Requirements: This institute includes 6 days of on-site instruction, seven hours of on-line learning and participation, and completion of a project in the fall.  MA DESE requires that institute participants must attend all sessions and complete all course requirements in order to participate and receive 67.5 PDPs. No partial credit will be given.

Optional graduate credit is available for a fee of $285 through Fitchburg State College.

Dates:  July 2, 3, 23, 24, (8:30 – 3:30), September 19 (8:30 – 2:30), and November 13 (8:30 – 4:00), 2015. There will also be online participation and a project in the fall.

For:  Advanced occupational therapists/assistants and physical therapists/assistants working in public schools, educational collaborative programs and approved private special education programs in Massachusetts. Participants will be accepted on a first -come, first -served basis. Applicants will be notified of acceptance on a rolling basis until the institute is fully enrolled, with consideration given to ensure a balance of OT and PT as well as geographic distribution of participants across the state.
