FF2014 - Andrea Wong - Portuguese Knitting Basics
During this workshop, knitters will have the opportunity to learn about the history and practice the style of knitting which is in Greece, Portugal, Egypt, and Turkey. The main characteristic is that the yarn is either wrapped behind the neck or looped the through a pin attached to the shoulder in order to maintain a constant tension. Students will learn the knit stitch, the purl stitch, increases, decreases, cast-on and bind-off. A project will be given to practice all the techniques described in class for a complete understanding.
Optional Material Fee: $5.00 for knitting pin.
Supplies
- Worsted-weight yarn in 2 contrasting colors, we recommend Rowan Pure Wool Worsted, Merino Otto, or Plymouth Select
- circular or straight needles, size 4 or 4.5mm (US 6 or 7)
Sharp scissors, notebook, pen or pencil with an eraser, stitch markers, blunt tapestry needles (large and small), flexible tape measure, small calculator, and needles & crochet hooks of various sizes.
