2016-17 FIMC-VI Webinars 

For the 2016-17 school year, FIMC-VI is offering a variety of webinars to help keep teachers, parents, administrators, paraprofessionals, and anyone who works with students with visual impairments up-to-date with best practices and current information. All webinars, unless otherwise indicated, will begin at 2:00PM and end at 3:30PM EST. An email will be sent at least 24 hours prior to the webinar with the meeting room link and log-in information. If you do not have time to particpate in the live webinar, they are always recorded and posted on our website.

• FIMC-VI Information and Updates - 1. August 19,  2016  | 2. December 14, 2016 | 3. April 18, 2017 

This webinar series has been previously known as the New Teacher Webinar series. Since much of the information pertains to FIMC-VI updates and applies to all teachers and supervisors, the name has been changed to more accurately reflect the information given during the webinar. Sign-up for this series to learn about book orders, Annual Census, APH materials, and what FIMC-VI has to offer. • Tech Thursdays - 1. September 8, 2016 | 2.  March 23 2017 | 3. May 18, 2017

Come gather around the virtual water cooler during Tech Thursdays to share information about current technology and apps, and to learn about up and coming technology for students with visual impairments. This webinar is your chance to collaborate with other teachers and learn from each other. Each webinar in this series will begin at 2:00PM and end at 3:00PM EST. 

• The Importance of Eye Medicals - 1.  September 28, 2016

  Updated eye medical reports are not only important to ensure that a student's eyes health remains stable, but it is also required by the State Board of Education Rule 6A-6.03014 that students have an updated eye medical every three years to ensure eligibility requirements are met. Of course, these are not the only reasons! Tune in to see how out of date eye medicals impact your students' access to materials. 

• State Assessment Information & Updates - 1. October 18, 2016

As Florida continues to transition to the new Florida Standards Assessment, FLDOE's Bureau of Exceptional Education and Student Services (BEESS) will keep us apprised of upcoming changes that may impact students with visual impairments.

• It's not just an Octagon! The many uses of the Geometro 1. November 3, 2016 & November 4, 2016

Join Aniceta Skowron, the creator of the Geometro, in an interactive webinar to learn about the many different ways to teach math concepts using the Geometro. This webinar will be offered twice, with a limited number of seats available. There will be 15 seats for each webinar. Each participant will receive a Geometro and accessory kit. In order to maximize learning, you will need a camera to share what you create with the Geometro with Aniceta and the group. The webinar will begin at 1:30PM and end at 3:00PM EST. The first 15 to register for each session will receive the Geometro and accessory kit prior to the webinar along with a code to log-in. Due to the interactive nature of this webinar and the resources being provided, it is important you are committing to log-in to the live session. A recorded version will be available, but will not be as valuable without the live interaction.

• Ready, Set, Braille Challenge! 1. November 9, 2016

Florida rocks when it comes to the Florida Regional Braille Challenge events! This past year six students from Florida went on to compete in the National Braille Challenge, and two placed 3rd in their respective categories. Join Sue Glaser to learn about the valuable resources available and strategies to help prepare your students for the Challenge.

• Cooking without a Kitchen 1. January 11, 2017

As itinerant teachers it is always challenging to teach independent living skills in the "classrooms" we are provided. Come get ideas on how to integrate a very important part of the Expanded Core Curriculum-Independent Living Skills, from Sheri Davis, a teacher of the visually impaired in Hillsborough County Schools. Let's get cookin'!

• Accessible Calculators 1. January 26, 2017

  Join Andrea Wallace to explore and learn how to manipulate the accessibility features on a few of the accessible calculators that are on the market today. Information will be provided regarding calculators that are not allowed on statewide assessments. 

• Apps for Access 1. Febraury 16, 2017
