18th Annual San Francisco Great Books Mini-Retreat

Zoom online sessions on February 20, 2021

at 10:00-12:00 & 1:30-3:30 p.m.

The morning session will run from 10:00 until 12:00p.m. We will discuss the contemporary play:

FAMILIAR by Danai Gurira

The New York Times says Ms. Gurira weaves issues of cultural identity and generational fictions…into naturally flowing dialogue.  Her engaging characters are drawn with sympathy as impending nuptials expose a comic culture-clash but also deep fissures within a Zimbabwean-American family in Minnesota.

The play FAMILIAR is available at: concordtheatricals.com

 or 866-979-0447

To avoid higher shipping fees, allow 2-3 weeks for delivery.

The afternoon session will run from 1:30p.m.until 3:30p.m. We will discuss the short story:

“The Interpreter of Maladies” by Jhumpa Lahiri

In addition to the Pulitzer Prize for her first short story collection, Ms. Lahiri was the winner of the PEN/Hemingway Award and the New Yorker Magazine’s Debut of the Year Award.  Her crystalline language takes us to exotic sites in India while probing marriages from two continents.  Admirers say she unerringly charts the emotional journeys of her characters with universal eloquence.

Upon your registration, we will send to your email address a PDF of the Lahiri story.
