This introductory-intermediate level two day workshop is for victim advocates on the front lines of domestic violence and/or sexual assault programs working with survivors from infants to older adults.
Victim Advocates regularly encounter stories and symptoms of trauma in their roles. Growing evidence shows that the impact of directly supporting others through their experiences of trauma goes beyond burn-out or fatigue.The toll of witnessing intense human experiences and emotions can contribute to a negative transformation of a helper's own sense of safety, and of being competent and purposeful. This workshop will provide you with the opportunity to examine your own experiences and become aware of the signs of both vicarious trauma and vicarious growth. You will learn to develop a personalized plan to repair negative effects as well as accelerate your resilience. Topics include external and individual factors impacting the effects of trauma work, identifying anchor points to stay steady and solid, and strategies for building empathetic resilience. This highly interactive workshop includes the use of movement, video, drumming, case study exercises, personal reflection and small group activities. Come with a desire to learn ways to maintain and sustain a balanced, healthy lifestyle while doing vitally important work.

Cost: $20 for ODVN members and $35 for non-members
Continuing Education Credits: 11 CEUs as provided by counselor and social worker provider numbers, #RCX0402 and #RCX120302. Please note that CEU credit hours will only be given for the hours you actually attend training. To get a complete certificate of attendance for all the offered hours, you must attend the entire training. There are no exceptions.
Cancellation Policy: This popular training fills up quickly, If you have to cancel, please inform our training coordinator, Denise Kontras, denisek@odvn.org as soon as possible. A full refund will be given until the deadline, July 2. If you cancel your registration after the deadline or fail to attend the training you or your agency will be responsible for the full registration fee. Participant substitutions are always permitted.
