Teaching Parenting the Positive Discipline Way

Become a

Certified Positive Discipline Parent Educator!!

Are you interested in learning new parenting strategies for your own use or to support the families you work with?

Teaching Parenting the Positive Discipline Way (developed by Lynn Lott and Jane Nelsen) provides a step-by-step approach to starting and leading experientially based parenting groups.  Positive Discipline parenting strategies focus on helping children to become respectful, responsible, and contributing, and to develop the sense that they are capable, through strategies that are kind and firm, with a focus on connection before correction.  Based on Adlerian principles, Positive Discipline parenting and classroom strategies help children gain a sense of belonging and significance.

This online workshop is facilitated by Aisha Pope and Talin Yesaie of Roots and Wings Consulting.  It is three 5.5 hour days long (including lunch and breaks). It will be fun, interactive, and provide you with tons of practial tools that can be used by parents, teachers, therapists, childcare providers, and anyone else who works with kids and their caregivers.  For those who prefer shorter sessions, please check the PDA website www.positivediscipline.org for availability.  We are passionate about equity and social justice, so we incorporate and welcome discussions around cultural responsiveness and trauma informed care in our workshops. You don't want to miss this!

Participants Will:

  • Learn research based effective tools and techniques for teaching parents how to use discipline that is kind and firm at the same time (non-punitive non-permissive), creates connection before correction, is empowering and encourages children to believe in their own capability, and keeps the joy in parenting.
  • Learn how to use materials and activities in group settings, parenting classes and individual work with families.
  • Gain practice with experiential exercises for "getting into the child's world" to understand the belief behind the behavior in order to motivate change.
