The Mendelssohn Club of Albany is the longest continuously performing arts group in the Capital Region. Formed in 1909, the Club is composed of men with a variety of occupations and interests who live in the greater Capital District, Hudson Valley, and Berkshires. The Mendelssohn Club is dedicated to preserving and presenting male choral music and blends musical experiences with fellowship for its members. Jeffrey L. Vredenburg is the Club's conductor.
The Joytones, founded by Doug Long in 2012, is a chorus for early and middle stage Alzheimer’s patients and their care partners. This unique chorus provides an uplifting social activity, builds much needed self-esteem, and momentary joy for its members. The Joytones perform at various venues around the capital region, demonstrating the musical skills still available to people with Alzheimer’s disease, as well as promoting awareness and support. It is only the third such chorus in the United States.
