The Cultural Competency and Multicultural Awareness Task Force is pleased to announce a series of monthly web conferences designed to raise awareness, provide resources, and offer hopeful approaches for talking across difference and celebrating diversity. On Oct 20, Byron Rushing, Vice President of the Episcopal General Convention House of Deputies and Assistant Majority Leader of the MA House of Representatives, will share how his varying roles in the church and government offer a unique perspective on the current state of race and racism in the United States.
Byron has served in the Massachusetts House of Representatives since 1983. He has worked as a community organizer, served as President of the Museum of Afro-American history, was a founding member of the Episcopal Urban Caucus, and serves on the boards of the Episcopal Network for Economic Justice and of The Episcopal Church Archives. He holds an honorary doctorate from the Episcopal Divinity School in Cambridge, where he is an adjunct faculty member and is a member of St. John's, St. James Parish in Roxbury.
