Conference Agenda:

The 2013 conference agenda features the broadest and most in-depth scope of any Education Conference produced in the history of NAMI-NYS. Attendees will benefit from an exceptional array of plenary sessions featuring some of the country’s leaders in shaping mental health research; new treatment options; addressing suicide; depression; children’s mental health; mental health services in the military community; ways to involve families in the recovery team; and how mental health issues are perceived by the public.

In addition to the plenary sessions, we have planned the largest number of workshops ever offered at a NAMI-NYS conference, allowing participants to create a conference experience based on their personal interests and concerns.

Stand Up For Mental Health

Saturday evening will feature a special presentation by David Granirer, the founder of Stand Up for Mental Health. Stand Up for Mental Health is an innovative empowerment and educational program that teaches people living with a mental illness how to articulate their disease through stand-up comedy performances. Stand Up for Mental Health performances have entertained and changed people’s perception of mental illness throughout the world. Those who attended the film festival at the 2009 NAMI-NYS Education Conference will remember the screening of “Cracking Up” the documentary made about David and Stand Up for Mental Health. NAMI-NYS is delighted to welcome David, who will detail the program and how it has impacted the lives of the comedians as well as offer his own side-splitting stand-up performance.
