Scott's Bio

Dr. Scott Eberhardt currently works in high-lift aerodynamics with Product Development, at Boeing Commercial Airplanes. Scott joined Boeing in 2006 after a twenty year career on the faculty at the University of Washington in the department of Aeronautics and Astronautics. Scott was awarded a BS in 1980 and MS in 1981 from MIT and a Ph.D. from Stanford in 1985, all in Aeronautics and Astronautics. From 1984 to 1986 Scott worked at the NASA Ames Research Center in Aerothermodynamics.

While Dr. Eberhardt’s technical interests are in computational fluid dynamics, aerodynamics and aerothermodynamics, he has a strong interest in Aviation History. His passion for WWI-era airplanes was a driving force behind his career in aerospace. An opportunity, in 2004, to consult with Seattle’s Museum of Flight, led to historical research including applying modern engineering performance analysis to WWI fighters and stability and control wind tunnel testing of two pivotal WWI airplanes. From this work, Scott became recognized for this work and was selected as an “expert” for the PBS series “WARPLANE”.

Scott has delivered lectures on WWI airplane technology to the AIAA, to EAA, to the Boeing Enterprise Network and at the University of Washington.

Scott is the current Past Chair of the Pacific Northwest Section of the AIAA. Scott also serves on the ASEE Aerospace Division Executive Committee. Past activities for the AIAA include Thermophysics Technical Chair for the 29th Aerospace Sciences Meeting and General Chair for the 30th Aerospace Sciences Meeting. He has served on the Thermophysics Technical Committee and is currently on the History Technical Committee. Scott was also on the Pre-College Outreach Committee.

And we are happy to say that Scott is an Associate Fellow of the AIAA.
