 Enhancing Clinical Practice with Families Affected by Domestic Violence and Other Trauma

Training and case consultations and discussions for mental health clinicians on providing trauma-informed, developmentally-sensitive, parent-child integrated therapeutic services, with an emphasis on Child Parent Psychotherapy (CPP), an evidence -based model for families with young children, ages birth to 6 years. Case presentations from a current clinical cohort working with children and their parents exposed to domestic violence will be provided.

This training will include knowledge and skill building activities which will help participants:

  • Enhance understanding of how domestic violence affects the parent/survivor-child relationship and may disrupt secure attachments
  • Understand the basic framework of Child Parent Psychotherapy (CPP)
  • Enhance clinical strategies for repairing and strengthening the parent-child relationship by applying CPP 
  • Understand and build on resiliency factors for families experiencing DV and other trauma

9:00 am - 4:30 pm Tuesday & Wednesday, 6 hours of CEUs per day*

The Presenter:

Susan Blumenfeld, MSW, LCSW, is a licensed clinical social worker in Illinois with over 30 years of experience in developing more responsive community-based services and systems for children and families affected by family violence and other interpersonal trauma.  She is currently the Child Trauma Training Director for the National Center on Domestic Violence, Trauma & Mental Health. 

Susan is an experienced clinician, consultant and trainer on children and families affected by domestic violence.  During the past 10 years, she has  provided intensive training and consultation to domestic violence shelters, outreach programs, and community-based mental health programs to enhance trauma-informed, developmentally sensitive services for survivors and their children, both in the Chicago area, and nationally.  She's excited to return to Idaho for this training event!
