Friday evening will include a HD research poster session, a program on the top research papers of 2015, and an HD Innovators Forum and Reception, highlighting industry pipeline therapeutics. On Saturday, October 24th, attendees are also invited to attend the 9th Annual HD Clinical Research Symposium and HD Family Education Day. Practical Pointers and Perspectives on Huntington Disease for Local Practitioners

Introduction: Huntington’s disease is uncommon, but not rare. Clinicians specializing in neurology, movement disorders, mental health, genetics, and palliative care, as well as primary care providers, are likely at some time to see HD patients and families who need their guidance through the complex and progressive course of the disease. The single underlying principle that informs the approach of the course speakers in their own clinics, which we wish to convey to the attendees, is: “There is never ‘nothing I can do’ for a person with HD.”
Course objectives:
- review the diagnostic clinical features of HD;
- describe the typical course and stages of the disease;
- discuss the management of the neurological, psychiatric, cognitive, and medical aspects of HD;
- review how genetic counseling and genetic testing fit into the management of HD families;
- interactively discuss cases that present interesting genetic, neurological, or psychiatric management challenges;
- emphasize the importance of allied health professionals in the management of HD;
- review the local, regional, and national resources to help optimize their care of HD families, and allow them to remain involved in HD medical and research activities
