CCHRA February 24, 2012 Meeting 

In this presentation Bill Lynch will discuss various ways in which the employer can review the workers’ compensation program or coverage and reduce their costs. This presentation will assume that the attendees have basic knowledge of the workers’ compensation system and law in Pennsylvania.

The following areas for cost reduction will be addressed:

  • Make up of employer medical provider panels.
  • Which claims to litigate and which claims to settle.
  • Conventional insurance vs. self-insurance vs. captive insurance.
  • Employee morale.
  • Proactive approach to workers’ compensation program.
  • Communication with employee after a workers’ compensation claim is accepted.
  • What to do after a claim is accepted or a litigated claim is granted by the judge.
  • How to evaluate cases for settlement.
  • Compromise and release settlement agreements and Medicare set asides.

In addition to the above discussion, Bill will also touch, briefly, on subrogation in workers’ compensation and how that can be used to recover some of the losses in workers’ compensation claims.

Speaker: William H. Lynch, Jr., Esquire, Law Offices of William H. Lynch, Jr.   Bill is a graduate of Lafayette College and the Dickinson School of Law. After completing his education, he served on active duty in the United States Army and upon discharge, went into private practice originally in the area of civil litigation and trial work. For the past fifteen years he has focused mostly on the representation of employers and insurance carriers in workers’ compensation defense and subrogation matters, including subrogation liens in excess of $250,000. Bill started his own practice, concentrating in workers’ compensation defense and civil litigation in April, 2008.

Bill is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania as well as New Jersey. He is an active member of both the Philadelphia and Chester County Bar Associations as well as the Philadelphia Association of Defense Counsel. Bill is also a member of the Pennsylvania Self-Insurers Association, where he made a presentation on workers’ compensation subrogation at their 2004 annual meeting.

From 2000 to 2006, Bill served on the Board of Directors of Kids Chance, a non-profit organization which provides scholarships to the children of injured workers. Since May, 2010 Bill has served on the Environmental Advisory Committee for Tredyffrin Township. He also serves on the executive committee for the Philadelphia Chapter of the Lafayette College Alumni Association.
