the Rev. Dr. Jason Byassee

Jason Byassee teaches preaching at the Vancouver School of Theology in British Columbia, where he holds the Butler Chair in Homiletics and Biblical Hermeneutics. His primary vocation is to reinvigorate today’s church with the best of ancient and contemporary wisdom for creatively faithful living. His recent books have engaged questions of church revitalization in specific geographies (Northern Lights: Resurrecting Church in the North of England and with Ross Lockhart, Better Than Brunch: Missional Churches in Cascadia), reading the bible for preaching and life (Surprised by Jesus Again and Psalms 101-150), and technology and ministry (Following: Embodied Discipleship in a Digital Age, forthcoming with Andria Irwin).

The retreat will be on Wednesday, Sept 22 by Zoom, beginning at 9:30am with a formal opening and liturgy, followed by three sessions:

    • Session 1 – Resurrecting Church
      With reference to Byassee’s book
      Northern Lights: Resurrecting Church
    • Session 2 – Preaching in a Digital Age
      With specific reference to Chapter 8 of
      Following: Embodied Discipleship
    • Session 3  –  Discipleship after Covid: A Conversation
      With Byassee's co-author Andria Irwin

There will be two comfort breaks and an ample mid-day break for individual prayer & reflection, lunch, and personal time. The retreat will end by 3:30pm at the latest, following a closing worship.

The comp copies are all gone, but you can order your own copy by clicking the book title below!  A free copy of Byassee and Irwin's book, Following: Embodied Discipleship in a Digital Age (2021) will be sent to the first 40 registrants who indicate they'd like one by checking the "request the book" option as part of their registration.

Who can attend: This event is open to all active (paid) Clergy (priests and deacons) in the York-Credit Valley Area.  Honorary Assistants and retired clergy are invited to express their interest in attending to Arleane at aralph@toronto.anglican.ca.

What it costs: There is no registration fee. All costs associated with this event are covered by the YCV Area Council budget.

Confirmation emails & any further information about the retreat will be sent to the email address you provide when you register. Be sure that it is an account you access regularly. The Zoom invite will be contained in your confirmation email. The retreat zoom is password protected; the waiting room is enabled.
