Know The Rules About Dept. of Labor (DOL) Overtime”

Presented by:

Doug Pepin
President, Advise-HR LLC- Business Consultant

And

Jeanne M. Anderson
Attorney at Law, Anderson Legal Services PLLC

The Department of Labor Exempt wage rate change is forcing businesses to see what they have been doing incorrectly for years. Getting existing employees in line with the new exempt rate or non-exempt hourly pay is simple math. Writing/Rewriting handbooks and benefit plans, correcting current misclassifications, and dealing with the reclassification of existing employees to non-exempt are the bigger and potentially more costly issues. We will discuss:

  • how to determine pay rates and stay within budget.
  • the Duties Test for Exempt positions that many employers choose to ignore.
  • how to write handbooks/policies/benefits to better stay within the new laws.
  • how to explain the new rules to the employees being affected.

The sky isn’t falling as many would have you believe. Learn the rules and how they affect employment classification. The number one rule in Human Resources/Business- Keep it simple! If we don’t understand it, the employees surely won’t!
