You may have heard . . . the emotional and mental health of veterinary professionals are at risk. Compassion fatigue and mental stress are detrimental to individuals, practices, and the profession. If you think it isn’t a problem in your practice, a look at profession statistics will likely change your mind.
Caring for animals brings joy to veterinary professionals. Most were called to this profession to enhance the lives of animals. But when it comes to ailing and suffering animals, financial restraints of pet owners, and other mental stressors, that joy can silently turn to pressure and depression, sometimes to the mental and emotional detriment of the caregiver.
