SCORE Workshop - The Impact of Tax Law on Entrepreneurs

SCORE Jacksonville presents a FREE Workshop: "The Impact of the New Tax Law on Entrepreneurs", and you're invited!

The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 goes into effect this year and significantly changes the taxation landscape for entrepreneurs and their businesses.  If you don't understand the impacts the law will have on your business and you personally, you are not alone!  The workshop should help clarify the changes made and provide you with information you need to make better financial decisions.

This workshop will cover the following topic areas:
  • Business Tax Changes - We will cover the significant drop in tax rates for C Corps, the new 20% deduction for pass through entities (partnerships, LLCs and S Corps) as well as changes in the deductibility of certain items as business expenses.
  • Individual Tax Changes - The changes to tax law for individuals are extensive and will be covered in depth.
  • Small Business Organizational Structure - The changes in tax rates, depreciation and deductible items may change the ideal legal entity for your business.
  • Employee vs Contractor - Find out how the new tax law may change your decisions on using temporary employees or contractors versus hiring employees.
Here is your chance to understand how the new tax laws may impact your business and you as an entrepreneur before you close close your books for the year.

Our presenter will be Gary Garland

Gary graduated from the University of Buffalo in 1986 and began his accounting career as a CPA with Arthur Andersen & Co. in Long Island. He moved to Florida in 1997 and worked as a private accountant, most of those years as Divisional Controller for Dole Ocean Cargo Express, a $130M division of Dole Food Co.
In 2004, he married my wife and became a father to two daughters, 35 and 31. Since then, he's graduated from UNF with a Masters Degree, become the father to twin sons who are now 10 years old, grown his own accounting practices, relied on established franchisors CFOToday and Liberty Tax, respectively. Since that time, the size of his practices has grown to two offices with two additional offices planned over the next few years. His passion is helping guide the small business owner and consumer to make the right decisions for their financial future.
